Types of Auto Insurance

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage insurance is an important type of insurance for drivers in the state of Ohio. This type of insurance can help to pay for repairs to your vehicle if it is damaged in a number of ways, including by fire, theft, or vandalism. It can also help to pay for repairs if your vehicle is damaged by an animal or by a natural disaster.

Comprehensive coverage is not required by law in the state of Ohio, but it is a good idea to have this type of coverage if you own a vehicle and most people are encouraged to look at comprehensive coverage.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage is an optional coverage that pays for the repair or replacement of your vehicle if it is damaged in an accident. If you carry, collision coverage on your vehicle insurance policy, your insurance company will pay for the repair or replacement of your vehicle up to the limits of your policy. You will be responsible for paying any deductibles that apply to your policy.

If you decide to carry collision coverage on your vehicle insurance policy, your rates may differ from carrier to carrier, which is why price out what more than 20 insurance carriers would price your insurance premium at.

In Ohio, like comprehensive coverage, drivers are not required to carry collision coverage on their vehicle insurance policies, but it is generally a good idea to have it. In some cases, though, such as in a lease or bank loans, you may be required to have it on your car.

Liability Coverage

Auto liability insurance is one of the most important types of insurance for drivers in the state of Ohio. All drivers in Ohio are required to carry liability coverage insurance.

This type of insurance protects you financially if you are responsible for an accident that injures another person or damages their property. If you are sued, liability insurance can also help pay your legal expenses.

If you do not have liability coverage and are found to be at fault for an accident, you may be required to pay for all damages out of your own pocket.

There are different types of liability insurance policies available in Ohio. The two most common are bodily injury liability and property damage liability

Bodily injury liability covers medical expenses and lost wages for the other driver and passengers if you are at fault in an accident.

Property damage liability covers repairs to the other driver's vehicle and any other property damaged in the accident. Policies may vary in the amount of coverage they provide.

The minimum amount of coverage required by law in Ohio is $12,500 for bodily injury liability per person, $25,000 for bodily injury liability per accident, and $7,500 for property damage liability per accident. However, you may want to consider purchasing a policy with higher limits to protect yourself financially.

Personal Injury Protection

In the state of Ohio, all drivers must have auto insurance that includes personal injury protection (PIP) coverage. PIP coverage helps to pay for medical bills and other expenses related to injuries incurred in a car accident, regardless of who is at fault.

PIP coverage is important because it can help to cover the costs of medical treatment after an accident, even if the other driver is at fault. This can be especially important if you do not have health insurance or if your health insurance has a high deductible. In addition, PIP coverage can help to cover lost wages if you are unable to work due to your injuries.

There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to PIP coverage in Ohio. First, PIP coverage is not required if you have health insurance that will cover your medical expenses after an accident. Second, PIP coverage does not cover property damage.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is one of the optional coverages that drivers can purchase in Ohio, but is included with most of the policies we offer.

This coverage protects you if you're in an accident with a driver who doesn't have insurance or doesn't have enough insurance to cover the damages they've caused. It can help pay for your medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses related to the accident.

There are several reasons why it's important to have this coverage, even if you live in a state like Ohio that doesn't require it. First, there's always the possibility that you'll be in an accident with an uninsured driver.

Secondly, even if the other driver has insurance, it may not be enough to cover all of the damages they've caused.

And finally, if you're in an accident with an underinsured driver, their insurance company may try to deny your claim or delay paying it.

If you have any questions about uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage or any other aspect of auto insurance, feel free to give us a call. We're always happy to help our clients find the coverage they need at the best possible price.

Benefits of Auto Insurance

  • The most obvious benefit of having car insurance is that it financially protects you in the event of an accident. If you are at fault, your insurance will cover the cost of damages to the other vehicle and property.

  • If you are not at fault, your insurance will also cover the cost of your damages. In either case, you will be able to get your car repaired or replaced and will not have to pay out of pocket.

  • Another benefit of having auto insurance coverage on your vehicle(s), is that it can give you peace of mind. Knowing that you are protected financially in the event of an accident can help you to drive more confidently and carefully.

  • Lastly, having car insurance can help you to avoid costly legal fees. If you are involved in an accident and do not have insurance, you may be sued by the other party involved. If you have insurance, your insurance company will usually cover the cost of any legal fees.

FAQs about Auto Insurance: Frequently asked questions

  • Though there are minimum requirements in Ohio (see the following question), it is generally recommended to go with better coverage than just the bare minimum liability only.
